Let’s just Google it

Google is known as the technology wizard of the future. It has become so ingrained into our lives that the word itself has functionally shifted from a noun to a verb because we actively say we will ‘google’ something. Did you know Google can even calculate sums?  From maps to news, facts to history and even your own private homework tutor, as a globe we practically rely on the power that Google has to offer.

The idea of travelling through cities without google maps is now a foreign concept. In fact, many children and young adults are surprised to find their parents once navigated the streets with a giant fold out map and not a tiny electronic smartphone.

As much as we rely on the present technology, how reliable is the information we are viewing?

It is no doubt google is the supreme search engine above all others. It is filled with millions upon millions of web finding that many say the likes of Firefox, Internet Explorer and Yahoo haven’t even scratched the surface of what Google has to offer. Despite this, many of the webpages we stumble upon are more often than not outdated, the information false and the facts misinterpreted.

Any fool can create a blog page or update social media; spreading what could be misinterpreted, false information to the world. This then leads to a snowball effect where incorrect data is continuously passed on from one person to another until the line between what is true and false fades beyond recognition.

To help prevent this from happening, it is important that companies check their information, keep it in date and make sure it is appropriate. The use of incorrect facts or outdated information can reduce traffic to a website where searchers tend to look for the most relevant, recent and clear data.
