Animated Google Doodles

The search engine Google is well known for its ever changing homepage doodles which are altered to celebrate a certain holiday or occurrence on a regular basis. They are fun, surprising and spontaneous.

The idea for the Google doodles began in 1998, before the company was incorporated, when the founders played around with the logo to tell people that they were attending the Burning Man Festival by placing a stick figure drawing behind the second ‘o’ in the word ‘Google’. While this was relatively simple, it gave way to the proposal of decorating the logo for important events.

Over time, Google has employed a team of illustrators, or doodlers, and engineers who have created over 2,000 doodles for the homepage around the world! The group regularly get together to brainstorm ideas to celebrate with a doodle. In fact, they even accept proposals from Google users about ideas for future doodles!

Google has created a reputation for themselves with the invention of Google doodles and internet marketing holds some similarities. The aim of internet marketing is to draw traffic to a website through the use of SEO and other components. Although Google is now a respectable and well-known company, they once started out as one of the little guys. By using the animated doodles, they have managed to brand themselves into a recognisable figure which is known for something unique.

As well as utilising SEO and other internet marketing components into your work, you should make sure that you are crafting a brand which will be recognisable and that people will refer for a specific purpose. Everyone has been asked whether they’ve seen the most recent Google doodle and we’ve all heard the phrase ‘google it’ – make sure that you are creating a brand people will remember too!
